September brings the year’s tastiest event to Lakewood Camping Resort! We are counting down the days until the aroma of fresh wings and delicious pulled pork wafts through the seaside air at the resort!
The 10th Annual Grillers Cup will see around 20 teams from across the Carolinas battling it out in the Best Wings & Best Pork Butt categories.
Guests are encouraged to fire up their tastebuds for this two- day event, which benefits Help4Kids of Horry County. The local non-profit provides food and other essentials to children who might otherwise go without.
Friday, September 20: Wing Cook-Off
Get ready to dive into wing heaven on Friday, September 20! Competitors will fire up their grills and prepare at least 40 lbs. of wings each for the contest. Our judges, chosen by Lakewood from our 2024 business sponsors and team members, will be on hand to sample and score the offerings.
The tasting event opens to the public at 6 p.m.
To give the wings a try, guests can purchase $5 tasting punch cards (cash only). Each card is valid for 5 wings. Tickets will also be available for purchase for $1. These tickets can be used for drinks or chips available at the ticket tent as well as celery and ranch cups available from the Lakewood tent. Your $1 ticket can also be used to enter a drawing for a 2-night stay at Lakewood Camping Resort!
While feasting on savory wings, guests can enjoy live music, bid on Silent Auction Items, try their luck on a 50/50 raffle, browse RVs set up by Campers Inn & Camping World, and more! After enjoying your wings, satisfy your sweet tooth with dessert from the Crazy Mason’s Food Truck!
Weather permitting, there will also be inflatables set up for our younger guests to enjoy, free of charge!
Saturday, September 21: Pork Butt Competition
On Saturday, the attention shifts to the Pork Butt Competition! This portion of the event is sanctioned & judged by the South Carolina BBQ Association. This means the teams are cooking for points toward their state rankings!
Barbeque tastings will open to the public at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
To get a taste for themselves, guests can purchase $5 tasting punch cards (cash only). Each card is valid for 5 samples. Tickets will also be available for purchase for $1. These tickets can be used for drinks or chips available at the ticket tent as well as hearty sides served at the Lakewood tent. Your $1 ticket can also be used to enter a drawing for a 2-night stay at Lakewood Camping Resort!
The day continues with live music and entertainment. Enjoy desserts and refreshments from various vendors while the kids bounce on inflatables (weather permitting) and get their faces painted.
On Saturday, Lakewood Camping Resort will also offer $10 Fun Passes. It’s a chance for the public to experience the thrilling amenities offered at the resort, including our oceanfront water park.
The 2024 Grillers Cup wraps up at 2 p.m. on Saturday with an exciting awards ceremony.
