Lakewood’s Grillers Cup Assists in Feeding Thousands of Local Children

Lakewood Camping Resort is thrilled to share the results of our 10th Annual Grillers Cup! Proceeds from the annual cook-off support local non-profit, Backpack Buddies.

The event, held in September, generated $10,500 for the organization dedicated to providing food and other essentials to children in Horry County.

“We are so overwhelmed with gratitude for the support that we received from the staff, volunteers, grillers, sponsors and the South Carolina Barbeque Association at the 10th Annual Grillers Cup,” exclaimed Bridget Brancato, the non-profit’s Event Coordinator.

Lakewood Camping Resort’s President & Owner, Donald Perry, and General Manager, Kevin Strickland, presented the check to the organization on Tuesday. The extra funds will be used to feed 4,054 children in our own community.

“Without everyone in the community we could not continue our 100% volunteer mission of ‘no child hungry,'” explained Brancato.

The Grillers Cup held each September has become a part of the oceanfront resort’s culture and traditions.

“This is an event our team looks forward to hosting year after year. Not just for the great food, but for the ability to give back to our community in such an important way. It’s one of the most rewarding events we have the pleasure of hosting every year,” said Strickland.

In 2024, more than 20 teams fired up their grills to compete in both a wing and barbeque competition. The community was able to give their recipes a taste while enjoying live music and other entertainment.

Lakewood Camping Resort would like to thank all 2024 sponsors, guests, the community and all competitors for their support to make the 10th Annual Grillers Cup a success.

Plans are already underway for another remarkable event in 2025. Mark your calendars for the 11th Annual Grillers Cup scheduled for Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20.
